The Machine Learning Crash Course (MLCC) provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts and algorithms of Machine Learning. The course is suitable for undergraduate/graduate students, as well as professionals. It is open to students from any University upon selection. Attendance will be exclusively in person, and the course will not be streamed online.
The school is co-organized with the ELLIS Unit Milan and is designed for Master and PhD students who have a background in machine learning and want to specialize in reinforcement learning. Post-docs and industry professionals looking to pivot into RL research are also welcome. Beyond the lectures, the program emphasizes networking through social events and poster sessions where attendees can get feedback on their current work from peers and senior experts.
We are proud to highlight an outstanding achievement from our research community: 23 papers accepted in 2025 across the three premier international conferences in Machine Learning — ICLR, ICML, and NeurIPS. These publications, authored by researchers from ELLIS Unit Trento, reflect the exceptional quality and impact of our work in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computational sciences. This accomplishment underscores the strength of our research ecosystem, our commitment to excellence, and our growing contribution to the global ML community. Congratulations to all the authors involved for their remarkable efforts and scientific contribution.
The scientific program will run from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, featuring lectures by ELLIS Fellows and prominent researchers from academia and industry. The lectures will cover topics such as large-scale foundation models, self-supervised and multi-modal representation learning, multi-modal learning for robotics, and machine learning for sustainable solutions. The program will also include tutorial sessions, and keynote addresses. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a week-long project, gaining hands-on experience in model training under the guidance of Dr. Andrea Pilzer from the NVIDIA AI Technology Center, with access to NVIDIA’s advanced computing infrastructure. Social events will be held in Brunico and nearby areas, offering interactive networking opportunities with industry partners.
